ISM Scotland Launch

The launch of ISM Scotland proved to be a thriving success. Hosted at Edinburgh Business School, Heriot Watt University, sales professionals from around the region came to join us for an evening of networking and to share ideas as well as learn new tools to help develop themselves within their career.

Our first presenter for the evening was multi award-winning speaker and pitch and presentation specialist Mel Sherwood, who delivered a very engaging talk on ‘Charisma – Your Key to Maximum Influence and Impact’. This interactive session got the audience thinking about their own definition of charisma, before Mel went on to give her own tips on how to create your own authentic charisma that will help accentuate your best self and make you stand out.

Our next session was presented by Stuart Hamilton and Mark Gibson from Redspire, Microsoft Dynamics Gold Certified Partner Consultancy. This was an informative presentation on ‘Is Cold Call Dying’. It looked at the need for companies to make best use of social media in order to interact with potential and existing customers more successfully and specifically focused on how the advanced sales tool ‘LinkedIn Sales Navigator’, can help salespeople build and nurture customer relationships more effectively.

Our final speaker for the evening was Robert Hartnett, Senior Teaching Fellow and Fellow of the ISM. Robert’s presentation focused on ‘The Art of Negotiation: What they do teach you at Edinburgh Business School’, this was taken from a module that the university has delivered within their MBA programme since 1990’s. Robert looked at the different results and relationships approach from different academics before delving into the Negotiators Dilemma Game and how this can determine whether people are focused on relationships or results. The session concluded by looking at tradables to think about when negotiating.

Overall, this was a very insightful evening. A huge thank you to all our speakers for taking the time to come and present at our event.

Rachael is the primary point of contact for all members and prospective members. She takes enquiries through a range of communication channels, updating of membership databases as well as managing the membership life-cycle including sales, payment, new member communication, member benefits and renewals. She also manages and develops membership events in the UK and abroad as required. Although based at the ISM’s London offices, her role requires regular travel to coordinate and manage member volunteers, such as regional committees.
